Time Gap Between Intervals

Find the free time between two intervals, such as the buffer between two meetings. If the intervals actually overlap instead, the calculator reports the overlap length rather than a gap.

Comparing more than two intervals? See Time Interval Overlap Calculator.

Worked example

Meeting A runs 09:00-10:00 and meeting B runs 11:00-13:00. The gap between them is 10:00-11:00, one free hour. If instead B started at 09:30, the two would overlap by 30 minutes, and the calculator reports that overlap instead of a gap, since there's no free time to report.

Adjacent intervals

Two intervals that touch exactly, like 09:00-10:00 and 10:00-11:00, have zero gap and zero overlap; they neither leave free time nor conflict.

Limitations

This is clock-only arithmetic between exactly two intervals; for three or more, see Time Interval Overlap Calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Does it matter which interval I enter first?
No, the calculator sorts them by start time automatically before computing the gap or overlap.
