Age on a Date Calculator

Enter a birth date and a specific other date (a wedding day, a policy effective date, a future milestone). See the age as of that date.

Just need age as of today? See Age Calculator.

Worked example

Someone born January 1, 2000, will be exactly 35 years, 5 months, 14 days old on June 15, 2035, a reference date well in the future from today, computed with the same calendar-aware math as an ordinary present-day age lookup. Check that same birth date against a reference date from the past instead, say January 1, 2010, and the calculator reports exactly 10 years, 0 months, 0 days, the person's age at that earlier point in time. Whether the reference date sits in the future, the past, or on today itself makes no difference to how the calculation works, since it always measures the calendar-aware gap between two fixed dates.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming a future reference date requires different math than a past one. The same normalized calculation applies regardless of which direction in time the reference date falls.
  • Entering a reference date earlier than the birth date, which is rejected outright rather than producing a nonsensical negative age.

Limitations

This computes a calendar age as of the stated reference date only. It does not determine legal age, eligibility for any program, or any other status tied to a specific jurisdiction or policy.

Frequently asked questions

Can the reference date be before the birth date?
No, that combination is rejected outright, since a person's age before they were born is not a meaningful result.
Does this work the same way for a future reference date?
Yes, the same normalized calendar calculation applies whether the reference date falls in the past, the future, or on today itself.
