Time Card Calculator

Add each punch pair for the day (for example, a morning session and an afternoon session) and get the total worked time.

Aggregating several days into a pay period? See Timesheet Period Calculator.

Worked example

A morning punch of 09:00 to 12:00 covers 3 hours, and a separate afternoon punch of 13:00 to 17:00 covers 4 hours, for a combined total of 7 hours for the day once both independent records are summed. Add a third punch later that evening, say 18:00 to 19:00 for an extra hour of work, and the daily total simply grows to 8 hours, since each punch pair is treated as its own independent record rather than as part of one continuous shift with breaks in between. This is the key difference from the Hours Worked Calculator, which models one shift plus its breaks. A time card instead models any number of separate punch pairs across a day, which fits a job with genuinely disconnected work sessions rather than one shift interrupted by a lunch break.

Common mistakes

  • Entering two punches that overlap in time, such as 09:00 to 13:00 and 12:00 to 17:00. The calculator rejects this outright rather than silently double counting the overlapping hour.
  • Treating a single shift with a lunch break as two separate punches when what is actually needed is one shift plus an unpaid break deduction. The Hours Worked Calculator is the better fit for that specific case.
  • Forgetting to add a punch for a short session, such as a brief return to finish one task, which understates the real daily total.

Limitations

Every punch here is treated as an independent worked record. This tool does not classify any portion of the day as a paid or unpaid break, and it makes no wage, overtime, or payroll compliance determination. If breaks need to be deducted from a single continuous shift, use the Hours Calculator instead.
