Date Midpoint Calculator

Find the date exactly halfway between two dates, such as the midpoint of a project phase or a semester.

Need more than one split point? See Date Range Splitter.

Worked example

From January 1 to January 11, 2027, the range spans 10 elapsed days. Halfway through is 5 days after the start, landing exactly on January 6. From January 1 to January 12 instead, the range spans 11 days, an odd number, so the exact midpoint falls at noon between January 6 and January 7 rather than on either date alone. The calculator states this explicitly rather than silently rounding to one side, since rounding either way would understate how the true midpoint splits the range.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming the midpoint always lands on a whole date. It only does when the range spans an even number of elapsed days. An odd span always produces a half-day midpoint, and rounding it to the nearer date quietly shifts the answer.
  • Counting from the wrong end. The midpoint should sit the same distance from both the start and the end date, so swapping which date is "start" and which is "end" should never change the result, only how it is described.

Limitations

This is calendar arithmetic only. It does not account for a time zone unless the range you enter already reflects the time of day that matters to the comparison.

Frequently asked questions

What happens with an odd-length range?
The result states that the exact midpoint falls at noon between two calendar dates, rather than picking one arbitrarily.
